Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) in Uburu, Ebonyi State, has rejected allegations of an administrative conflict within the university, labeling them as inaccurate and deceptive.
On Wednesday, Shittu told journalists that there was no crisis between the management and the Governing Council, emphasizing that the institution remained stable and committed to its academic mission.
He refuted claims of being sidelined from university affairs, emphasizing that such assertions were unfounded.
“I have no complaint against anybody and nobody has sidelined me,” he said, noting that due to his many years of experience in public service, such a situation is not likely to occur.
He called on the media to ignore unfavorable reports concerning the institution, labeling these as efforts by unidentified people to generate needless tension.
In the wake of his statements, Professor Jesse Uneke, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, noted that members of the Governing Council were on campus for their required meeting, refuting claims that the council was inactive.
“As you can see, the council is meeting. Any suggestion that it is not working is not correct,” he said.
Uneke noted that the university maintained stability in both academic and administrative aspects, crediting the effective oversight of the council for the ongoing development of infrastructure within the institution.
He recommended that members of the public check information directly with the university instead of depending on reports that have not been confirmed.
Speaking as well, Barrister Saliou Bamidele Aluko, a member of the Governing Council, characterized claims that the council had been taken over as false.
He stated that the council functions independently and fulfills its duties without outside interference.
He claims that council meetings are carried out thoroughly and adhere to established procedures.
Paul Okpe, a council member representing the Federal Ministry of Education, also rejected the reports, calling them unfounded.
He stated that there was no crisis at the university and that the management and council were collaborating harmoniously.
The university management asserted that the institution is open to scrutiny and urged stakeholders to seek clarification via official channels.
