NATO leaders have issued a warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stressing that he must adhere to a ceasefire deadline in Ukraine or face serious repercussions.

Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, addressing the situation in Brussels on Friday, emphasized that Russia must face consequences if it rejects the ceasefire proposal.

Joly is in Brussels to hold talks with her NATO colleagues.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna also stressed the importance of setting clear boundaries when it comes to the timeline for a ceasefire in Ukraine.

“(Russian President Vladimir Putin) is asking for more, and he is not asking only more about Ukraine. He’s just putting new conditions on the table (…) there must be some kind of red lines on the timetable,” Tsahkna said.

This comes as a senior NATO official disclosed that Russia has incurred approximately 900,000 casualties since the conflict began in February 2022, according to reports from the German press agency DPA.
