Raheem Sterling could face up to two years in prison after being charged with three offences linked to a car crash in May.

The former England international, who is currently without a club, was arrested by Hampshire Police after his Lamborghini crashed into motorway barriers near the Minley Interchange on the M3.

The incident occurred at about 9am and involved no other vehicles, while nobody was injured.

Following the crash, Sterling was stopped by police and taken into custody before later being released on bail, according to authorities.

Initial reports stated that the former Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool winger had been arrested on suspicion of possessing a Class C drug, a category covering several substances.

However, The Sun has now reported that Sterling has been charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen.

The 31-year-old is scheduled to appear before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15 to answer the charges.

If convicted of dangerous driving, Sterling could face a prison sentence of up to two years.

A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary told The Sun: “A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.

“Raheem Sterling, 31, from Berkshire, has been charged for the following offences: dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, failing to provide a specimen.

“The charges come following a single vehicle collision, involving a Lamborghini, on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange, on 28 May, 2026.

“No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

“Mr Sterling is due to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September.”
