Remains of El-Rufai’s mother arrive Abuja for burial

The corpse of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of Nasir El-Rufai (former Kaduna State governor), has reached Abuja in preparation for her interment.

After a short illness, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, March 27, 2026.

On Sunday, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the deceased’s grandson and the House of Representatives member for Kaduna North Federal Constituency, confirmed via a statement on his X account that the body had arrived and funeral arrangements were in place.

“This is to notify the general public that the remains of our grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, have safely landed in Abuja,” he wrote.

Previously, ZINGTIE reported that Bello declared the Janazah (funeral) prayer for the deceased Hajiya Umma El-Rufai would be held at 1:00 pm in the National Mosque, Central Area, Abuja.

He stated that the burial will take place right after the prayer at Gudu Cemetery, located in the Apo area of Abuja.

Since the announcement of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai’s death, condolences have been abundant, and several notable individuals visited the El-Rufai family home on Saturday.

Among those who paid their respects were Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, SAN, and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
