Report: In 2024, MDAs invested N22 billion in solar systems.

In 2024, a total of N22,782,065,914.14 was spent by federal ministries, departments, and agencies on different solar power installations around Nigeria. The funding was allocated among several projects with the goal of increasing rural electrification, public lighting, and infrastructural improvements.

The federal government’s investment in solar energy is in line with its larger plan to increase access to renewable energy in important areas like transportation, agriculture, rural communities, education, and health.

In order to establish sustainable economies and reduce rural-urban migration, the government also intends to install mini-grids as part of the e-HEART initiative, which aims to reach 80 million Nigerians without electricity.
