House of Representatives member Francis Waive called on the Delta State All Progressives Congress (APC) to select Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its candidate for governor in 2027, but the APC turned him down.
Waive recently urged the party to field Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its only candidate for governor in 2027.
But in a statement signed by Valentine Onojeghuo, its publicity secretary, the party disassociated itself from Waive’s comments, emphasizing that his viewpoint was purely personal and did not represent Delta APC’s perspective.
It gave the public and party members the assurance that the next election’s candidate would be chosen through an open and competitive process that reflected the desires of the populace for substantive change.
“We wish to state unequivocally that Waive’s position is purely his personal opinion and does not reflect the stance of Delta APC, its leadership, or the generality of its members,” the statement read.
The party criticized Governor Oborevwori’s administration, calling it a “monumental disappointment” and charging it with lacking growth and being careless with money.
“Despite receiving over ₦2 trillion in federal allocations, the Oborevwori administration has failed to deliver any meaningful infrastructural, economic or social advancements for the people of Delta State”
“A range of highly qualified and capable individuals will provide Deltans with a viable and credible alternative in 2027,” the APC reaffirmed its intention to defeating the current Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.
Reiterating its resolve to “rescue Delta State from the shackles of misrule and the failures of the PDP-led administration,” the Delta APC asked its members and the public to ignore Waive’s statement.
