After accusations that a former Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, Adebowale Opeyemi, threatened his wife with a gun on multiple occasions in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Police Command seized a cache of guns from him.

Olufunmilayo Opeyemi, 60, of Alanco Area, Osiele, the suspect’s wife, reportedly filed a complaint on August 27 alleging that her 62-year-old husband frequently pointed a single-barrel rifle at her during arguments.

She also claimed that the retired police routinely fired the firearm inside and outside their house, frightening family members and neighbors who grew increasingly worried about his mental health.

After accompanying Mrs. Opeyemi to the police station, family members decided to get the retired officer medical attention and made arrangements for him to be sent to a mental health facility in Abeokuta for assessment and care.

The retired DSP’s wife and kids were present when police officers stormed his home in response to a search request.

A short iron rod, three cutlasses, two jack knives, and a single-barrel pistol were among the items found.
