Rivers crisis: ‘Don’t use your position to antagonise anyone’ – Fubara warns new appointees

On Monday, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara sent a severe warning to Edison Ehie, his new chief of staff, and his special advisers.

Fubara advised Ehie and his special advisors not to “antagonise anyone” with their new position.

On Monday, at the Executive Council Chambers, Ehie and the special advisers took the oath of office.

During the state’s political crisis, Governor Fubara was backed by all six appointments.

During his speech at the swearing-in, Fubara implored everyone to put aside their differences and work towards the advancement of the state.

He advised Ehie and others he appointed not to use his position to battle his opponents.

According to Fubara: “Let me add: don’t use this position to antagonise anybody, even in your localities. I want to speak to you and I will continue to say that what God cannot do does not exist.

“That you succeeded in battle is not because of your power. It is the grace of God. When God says it will not happen again, whoever you are, it ceases from that moment. I am not appointing you today because I want you to go to your areas and start fighting, no.”

As part of the peace agreement the governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, signed, Ehie, a staunch supporter of Fubara, resigned from his position as Speaker.

Wike and Fubara have been at odds over who controls the political system in the state.

President Tinubu had stepped in and forced the two to agree to a peace treaty.
