Finally, 27 members of the State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, have been acknowledged by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

According to ZINGTIE, Fubara declared the seats of the members led by Amaewhule vacant for more than a year and five months after they defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers that were fired were supporters of Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT.

The problem remained unresolved despite numerous lawsuits and stakeholder interventions, but the Supreme Court reinstalled the lawmakers on Friday.

Fubara was given a 48-hour deadline by the lawmakers during their first plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday to re-present the 2025 budget that three of his supporters had already approved.

Despite the Supreme Court’s decision, there were concerns that the governor would disregard the order.

However, the Fubara government sent an official letter to the Amaewhule-led Assembly explaining why it might not re-present the budget on Wednesday as requested.

The letter expresses his acceptance of the lawmakers who support Wike and his adherence to the Supreme Court’s ruling.
