The House of Assembly has voiced alarm about Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s ongoing delay in presenting a list of commissioner nominations for screening, suggesting that a new crisis is developing in Rivers State.

During Friday’s plenary session, the legislators brought up the issue.

ZINGTIE remembers that in order to guarantee efficient state government, the Assembly asked the governor to submit a list of commissioner nominees during the House’s first meeting after the emergency rule was suspended in September 2025.

Since then, Fubara has fired every commissioner chosen during the height of the political crisis, citing the Supreme Court’s finding that they were not vetted by the constitutionally recognized Assembly.

He did, however, keep commissioners who had been properly vetted and approved before to the crisis and transferred some of them to other ministries.

The state currently operates without a significant number of commissioners, with permanent secretaries in charge of important ministries.

There are currently no commissioners designated to several crucial ministries, such as Education and Communication.

The governor has not yet provided an explanation for the hold-up.
