The list of applicants who passed the screening process for the local government elections scheduled for August 30 has been made public by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC.

The screening took place in the Commission’s state offices in Port Harcourt between Friday, August 8, 2025, and Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Chief Electoral Commissioner Michael Ekpale Odey, the chairman of the RSIEC, issued a statement urging candidates and political parties to come to the Commission’s offices to confirm the names listed on the notice board.

According to the updated election schedule, the identities of the victorious candidates were made public on Friday, August 12, 2025, the statement continued.

Citing the state’s political problems, RSIEC postponed the LG polls, which were originally planned for August 9.

Many have challenged the electoral process, with some arguing that retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator, has the constitutional authority to hold elections.
