In the Okwuzi community of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder have discovered a private property that has been illegally turned into a refining plant.

Commodore Desmond Igbo, the commander of NNS Pathfinder, gave the military team a tour of the illicit refining facility on Friday and notified the media that more than 200,000 litres of diesel, or illegally refined automotive petrol oil, had been seized.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested.

Commodore Igbo said that coordinated intelligence operations led to the discovery, which was done in compliance with the Chief of Naval Staff’s directive to combat crude oil theft and related vices in the Niger Delta region.

The site’s unlawfully refined products were present in enormous quantities, according to the commander, who also mentioned that over 62 tanks were full and that some were stored in drums and sacks.

He attested to the discovery of more than 200,000 litres of illicit goods refined from crude oil that had been pilfered or taken from pipelines.

Commodore Igbo said the complex will be shut off and that the suspects would be turned over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.

Additionally, he gave young people in the area advice on how to avoid becoming instruments of economic destruction for their country.
