Rivers: Nobody has monopoly of violence – Fubara fumes over attack on supporters

Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, expressed sorrow on Thursday over the attacks on his followers by dissidents who were purportedly supported by the departing chairmen of the state’s Local Government Councils.

In the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers, Fubara declared the start of construction on the N80.3 billion, 33.5-kilometer Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Road dual carriageway and bridge project.

The governor, who is currently engaged in a power struggle with his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike, issued a warning: anyone who harms innocent people for political gain would never be pardoned.

“It is unfortunate that after we inaugurated the Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo Road project on Tuesday and left, some people went there and attacked our people.

“There is no need for that. Nobody has the monopoly on violence. I should even be the one to come out and shout that I will do this and that, but I have not done so because both sides (people) belong to me.

“So, I am advising those people who call themselves local government chairmen and that have a few days in office, to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner,” Fubara said.

During his administration, the governor also promised to maintain careful management of the state’s resources.

He reassured people that his administration was committed to looking out for their interests and stressed that nothing would stop it from doing so.
