You guys, Russia just dropped a bombshell! They’re offering 500,000 scholarships to international students, and Nigeria is one of the countries that’ll benefit from this initiative. The Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Andrey Podelyshev, spilled the beans during a media briefing in Abuja.

According to him, this scholarship program is part of Russia’s strategy to strengthen educational and diplomatic ties with Africa. “The initiative is part of a broader policy to expand access to higher education for African students across various fields in Russian universities,” he said.

The ambassador also revealed that Russia has already provided over 220 scholarships to Nigerian students for the 2025 academic year, covering tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs. He emphasized that the scholarship program would help foster long-term cooperation between Russia and Nigeria.

Podelyshev added that Russia plans to establish a strategic framework to encourage students to return to their home countries after completing their studies. “strategic framework to encourage students to return to their home countries after completing their studies… by training students for specific national projects, Russia believes that students will have stronger incentives to return and contribute to their country’s growth.”
