According to Yuriy Boyechko, Hope For Ukraine CEO, Moscow shouldn’t gain a diplomatic triumph from the United States’ final 28-point peace plan to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The humanitarian responded to this week’s high-level discussion in Geneva, where officials from the United States and Ukraine discussed a revised and improved peace framework.
He claimed that recent U.S. diplomatic moves and remarks have offered Moscow “invaluable political intelligence,” emphasizing how the original proposal was generally seen as a blueprint for Ukrainian “capitulation.”
Boyechko advised the Trump administration not to declare a swift victory in foreign policy, even if doing so would jeopardize Kyiv’s sovereignty and drive away European allies.
The critic emphasized that as negotiations move into the final stage, President Vladimir Putin’s bargaining position is strengthened by the impression that the American leadership is in favor of a pro-Kremlin plan.
“Putin’s strategy has been simple: let the U.S. propose a deal that contains Russian red lines, then stand on the sidelines, cautiously welcoming the plan, while watching Washington absorb the backlash,” he noted.
Boyecho claims that the move supports Russia’s claim that the West is disintegrating and would be prepared to exchange Ukrainian interests for peace.
“The damage lies not in the text of a document, but in the American side’s political calculations, giving Putin confidence that he can outmaneuver the U.S. diplomatic team in the next phase of negotiations,” he added.
According to reports, President Volodymyr Zelensky has accepted the mediated peace agreement, albeit there are still certain points of contention that need to be resolved.
President Donald Trump declared in a Truth Social post on Tuesday that the initial 28-point peace proposal has been improved with new suggestions from both sides.
While Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll will meet with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv, Trump has instructed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to speak with President Putin in Moscow.
However, the American leader stated that “when the deal to end this war is final or in its final stages” is when he will have his next face-to-face meeting with Putin and Zelensky.
