A remarkable total was raised at Sharon Deyell’s 14th swap shop event, which took place at the Aith Hall on Sunday afternoon. The event, which has been running for many years, has now raised over £60,000 for charity.

The swap shop allows people to pick up clothes and accessories in return for a donation while also providing an opportunity for the community to come together and support a good cause. The items available at the swap shop are donated by people in the community, including some notable contributors.

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly, a long-time supporter of the event, donated a sparkly jacket she wore to the Royal Variety Performance last year in London, as well as a signed photo of her meeting King Charles while wearing the outfit. A Burra Bear was also donated for the raffle, adding to the excitement of the event.

The latest swap shop was officially opened by nine-year-old Bobby-Joe Johnson, who cut the ribbon to signal the start of the event. Attendees were encouraged to take a bag and fill it up with clothes before making a donation, and there was also tea and homebakes available.

Sharon Deyell, the organizer of the event, was thrilled with the outcome, saying it was “such a brilliant day, with an amazing total” raised. She also paid tribute to the “army” of volunteers who worked tirelessly to set up the event, saying:

“There were far more clothes donated than I ever expected this year. I thought it might be a peerie event this year, but that didn’t happen.”

“The raffle ticket sellers were kept busy all day selling raffles, and the teapot pourers never stopped brewing the teas.”.

Deyell also praised the raffle ticket sellers and the teapot pourers, who kept busy throughout the day. The money raised from the event will be donated to Clan Cancer Support and the Viking Genes project.
