The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other opposition parties are all expected to lose the 2027 general election, according to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The party claims to be stepping up its efforts to increase the number of its members across the country.

During the SDP’s North-Central Zonal Caucus meeting on Thursday in Nasarawa State, Abubakar Dogara, the party’s National Vice Chairman for the North Central Zone, revealed this.

Dogara described the SDP as the new political “bride” of the Nigerian people and underlined that the party is taking calculated steps to broaden its popularity.

He pointed out that the party is aggressively getting ready for the 2027 elections by holding frequent meetings at different levels and continuing member registration campaigns.

“We are organizing meetings from the zonal and national levels down to the wards, states, and local governments,” he said.

“It’s part of the preparation, and we have been registering new members across the country every now and then.

“Our membership card has always been exhausted at the state level,” he added.

He hailed important party leaders as being crucial to the party’s advancement in the North Central area, including Hon. Jonathan Gaza, Prince Adewale Adebayo, and Hon. Femi Olaniyi Ferrari.

Dogara pointed out that protecting the party’s structure and members rather than letting outside forces compromise its integrity was one of the main decisions made during the meeting.

He emphasized the SDP as a strong alternative to the current government and urged Nigerians to back the party and its candidates.

“SDP is now the alternative party in Nigeria,” he said, stressing, “We are calling on all Nigerians to join the movement and register from the ward level up to the national level, in accordance with the party’s constitution.”

He accused the ruling party of not upholding the constitutional provisions that guarantee citizens’ rights, adding that the party’s emphasis on the welfare, interests, and security of the people sets it apart from those now in power.

Idoko Idoto, the Benue State SDP chairman, was very upbeat about the party’s chances both within and outside of the state during his remarks.

“SDP has a 100% chance in Benue State.

“We’ve governed here before and have consistently fielded credible candidates.

“Come 2027, we are coming with full force. We will take over Benue State, all senatorial districts, and make a strong showing in the House of Representatives and State Assembly,” Idoto said.

He ended by adamantly stating that the party is prepared to provide influential leadership throughout the nation.
