18 persons have been kidnapped by suspected sea pirates in separate attacks throughout Rivers State’s waterways.

One of the cases occurred on Tuesday when a wooden cargo boat carrying five people was hijacked and diverted off course while headed toward Bonny in Bonny Local Government Area.

Thirteen passengers on their way to Bille were kidnapped in Isaka, in the Okrika Local Government Area, in a different incident.

During the raid, the outboard-powered passenger boat was also confiscated.

Six passengers were apparently abducted during a similar attack on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, using the same boat that was used in the Bille attack. The attack was purportedly carried out by the same operator.

Another outboard engine-powered motorboat was captured in a third attack off Port Harcourt’s Tourist Beach.

Luckily, no passengers were on board at the time.

The event was confirmed by Rivers State Police Command spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, who stated, “The police are working hard to rescue the victims unhurt.”
