General Christopher Musa (rtd), a former chief of defense staff, has received congratulations from the Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on his appointment as Nigeria’s Minister of Defense.

Musa was nominated by President Tinubu earlier this week after former Defense Minister Abubakar Badaru resigned due to illness.

The President’s decision, according to a statement released on Friday by Northern CAN Chairman Rev. Joseph John Hayab, shows a renewed commitment to resolving the security issues plaguing several regions of the nation.

Hayab pointed out that by appointing an experienced military officer with a notable record of bravery, discipline, and operational excellence, Tinubu has demonstrated his attention to public concerns.

The association emphasized that General Musa’s return to the national security architecture at the ministerial level would further strengthen efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes, pointing out that his leadership as Chief of Defence Staff significantly contributed to stabilizing several theaters of operation, particularly in the North-East and North-West.

Northern CAN urged residents, traditional leaders, community leaders, and security stakeholders to back the new minister of defense, arguing that wide cooperation, unity of purpose, and collective vigilance are necessary to protect the nation.

The group urged Musa to give frontline troops’ wellbeing top priority, strengthen interagency cooperation, and guarantee swift reactions to new threats around the country.

Additionally, it urged the Federal Government to continue investing in cutting-edge machinery, sophisticated technology, and intelligence systems, stating that Nigerians anticipate quantifiable gains in security results in the coming months.

Northern CAN reaffirmed its dedication to advancing harmony, peace, and responsible civic involvement and expressed optimism that Musa’s appointment will contribute to the restoration of public faith in the country’s security agencies.

The Christian leaders went on to say that Northern CAN will continue to advocate for policies that promote national stability and advance the common good as a moral voice in society.
