A suspected cultist and armed robber was apprehended by Ijede Division officers of the Lagos State Police Command, who also retrieved a locally manufactured handgun from him.
The arrest came following a distress call on August 18, 2025, when locals in the Sabon Kasuwa neighborhood of Abule Eko claimed that a guy was openly brandishing a gun and threatening others, according to the command. Officers moved quickly to arrest the suspect, Onamade Kayode, after following him to an incomplete construction.
According to preliminary investigations, Kayode, who was freed from jail in 2022 after being found guilty of cult-related offenses, is still actively involved in a cult.
He admitted to having a gun while being questioned, and he then guided the agents to a concealed location behind a toilet pipe in the same building, where the gun was found.
The suspect is now working with investigators to recover more weapons that are in circulation and apprehend more members of his cult organization. Following the investigation’s conclusion, he will face charges in court.
CP Olohundare Jimoh, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, praised the Ijede Division officers for their prompt action and professionalism, which led to the arrest of the suspect and the retrieval of the gun.
