In a bid to boost agricultural productivity and food security, 87 farmers in Lagos State received a total of N11.4m in agricultural grants under the Renewed Hope Initiative 2025 Agricultural Support Programme. The programme, which was launched simultaneously across the 36 states of the federation, aims to empower individuals, especially women and youth, to embrace agriculture as a sustainable means of livelihood. Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, commended the First Lady and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for supporting the initiative with N60m

“For me, the Lagos story is changing, and it is changing for the best,” Sanwo-Olu’s wife said. “We will build a Lagos where no one goes to bed hungry, a Lagos where our women and youth are financially independent. Agriculture is not just our heritage; it’s our future. Let us remember that the food we eat starts with us.”

The wife of the Deputy Governor, Oluremi Hamzat, described the initiative as a way to grow household food production, saying, “The state is witnessing a new wave of opportunities.” She urged the beneficiaries to “plant the seed with care”.

Experienced farmer Femi Ojelade and Lagos State Coordinator Omolara Oguntuyi emphasised the importance of organic farming and encouraged the youth to embrace agriculture as the future. “Agriculture is the future,” they stressed.

The programme also includes a component for students, with 120 students from 24 schools across the six education districts participating in the agricultural project. This initiative aims to encourage youth to take up agriculture and promote food security in the state
