Senate pardons, recalls suspended Senator Abdul Ningi

The Senate has pardoned and recalled Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi of Bauchi Central.

On March 12, 2024, Ningi was placed under three months of suspension for claiming that the Senate had padded its budget.

Sen. Abba Moro, the deputy minority leader, moved to start the recall procedure by expressing regret on behalf of the suspended senator.

Sen. Abba Moro acknowledged the seriousness of the suspension and promised to take full responsibility for Sen. Ningi’s behaviour. The legislature has discussed and scrutinised the senator’s actions during the suspension.

Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, praised Sen. Ningi’s inventiveness and called him a cherished lawmaker, noting that the decision to recall him crosses racial and religious boundaries.
