Senator Sunday Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has offered full scholarships to five students of Bethel Baptist High School who survived a traumatic bandit attack and kidnapping in 2021.

The students were among 121 abducted by bandits on July 5, 2021, with all but five having since graduated from the school.

During a fundraising event organised by the Kaduna Baptist Conference for the rebuilding of the Bethel Baptist High School in Kaduna, Senator Katung announced that his education foundation would cover the students’ education expenses up to the university level.

“From today, my education foundation will take full responsibility for their education from now up to the university level,” Katung said, amidst applause from the attendees.

This gesture is a significant relief to the students and their families, who have already endured immense trauma and hardship. Katung’s commitment to supporting the education and future endeavours of the students is a commendable gesture and a beacon of hope for the affected families.

The kidnapping incident at Bethel Baptist High School highlighted the need for increased security measures and support for affected students and families in Kaduna State.

The state has witnessed a series of attacks on schools, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
