Serie A: Chukwueze opens up on struggles at AC Milan

Samuel Chukwueze has disclosed the cause of his first-season struggles at AC Milan.

The Nigerian international joined San Siro from La Liga team Villarreal in the summer of last year.

However, Chukwueze found it difficult to play frequently for the Rossoneri, as former manager Stefano Pioli gave preference to Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao over him.

The 25-year-old has made 26 league appearances for AC Milan, scoring just once.

The winger acknowledged that things were tough for him because he arrived late for the preseason.

“I arrived late, at the end of July. It was a bit difficult to convince him (Pioli); the player in my position was scoring goals,” Chukwueze was quoted by Football Italia.

“I had a good relationship with Pioli; he’s a fantastic guy and a great coach.”
