Sheikh Ahmad Mahmoud Gumi, an Islamic scholar from Kaduna, has stated that Nigeria is still searching for visionary leaders who can propel the nation forward.

He emphasized that such leaders should be individuals who prioritize the welfare of the people over personal wealth accumulation.

Speaking at an award ceremony organized by the Sultan Bello Primary School Old Pupils Association (SUBOPA) in Kaduna, Gumi honored two of their members—Major General Abdulmalik Jibrin (Rtd) and Brigadier General Abdulkadir Gumi (Rtd)—who recently received government appointments. He remarked, “These are not the kinds of leaders we see in this region, who focus only on themselves and their families.”

Gumi pointed out that the country is in dire need of leaders who are well-trained, have good character, and are genuinely motivated to serve others rather than their own interests. He stressed the importance of promoting individuals with positive qualities into leadership positions.

He also highlighted that insecurity has severely impacted states like Zamfara, resulting in poor education and instability in many communities.

The scholar commended the Zamfara State Government for appointing Brigadier General Abdulkadir Gumi (Rtd) to the Security Trust Fund Board, and called on Nigerians to actively contribute to the development of their communities and the nation.

Major General Abdulmalik Jibrin was appointed Secretary of the Civil Defence, Fire Service, and Immigration Board (CDCFIB) by the Federal Government, while Brigadier General Abdulkadir Gumi (Rtd) was named Chairman of the Zamfara State Security Trust Fund Board.

Gumi praised Major General Jibrin for his hard work, discipline, and dedication during his military service, noting that Nigeria needs leaders like him, who show commitment and patriotism.

Mohammad Babayo Hassan, the President of SUBOPA, remarked that the appointments of their members were not just personal accomplishments, but a testament to the values, determination, and excellence nurtured by their alma mater.

General Abdulmalik Jibrin (Rtd), speaking on behalf of the awardees, dedicated the honor to all the members of the association for their recognition and support.
