Pop star Shakira has been hospitalized in Peru due to a stomach issue, causing her to cancel her Sunday concert in the Andean country.
The Colombian singer shared the news on social media on Sunday.
“I’m sorry to let you all know that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and I’m currently hospitalised. The doctors taking care of me have let me know that I’m not well enough to perform tonight,” she wrote.
Shakira reportedly arrived in Lima on Saturday, marking her first performance there in over ten years.
Videos posted to her account showed a large crowd of fans welcoming her at the airport.
“I hope to be better by tomorrow and that they release me from hospital as soon as possible to be able to put on the show that I’ve prepared for you all,” Shakira said in her post.
Known in the Spanish-speaking world for hits like La Tortura with Alejandro Sanz and her 2023 diss track against her ex-partner Gerard Piqué, produced by Argentine DJ Bizarrap, Shakira is widely recognized for paving the way for Latin artists to break into the English-speaking market.
Her most iconic song to date is Hips Don’t Lie, featuring Wyclef Jean, with her signature gyrating dance moves.
Reports indicate that Shakira’s next concert in Lima is scheduled for Monday. She began her tour last week in Brazil.
