The SKY Girls initiative has been making waves in empowering teenage girls with practical life skills, entrepreneurial drive, confidence, and a sense of purpose. According to Mrs. Dinah Timothy, a teacher at Yason Schools in Kaduna State, the program has inspired students to support their families and build essential life skills. “Some of our girls have become more confident and even started small businesses during the holidays,” she said.
The initiative focuses on reinforcing local identity and pride while introducing useful skills for navigating today’s world. Through informative magazines, creative events, and practical workshops, SKY Girls promotes personal development and entrepreneurship
Parents have also noticed the impact, with Mr. Friday Daniel sharing that his daughter Dinah has gained significant confidence and started saving money from her part-time job. “Before, my daughter struggled with confidence. Now she’s not afraid to stand up to peer pressure and has started saving money,” he said.
As the program continues to grow, deepening engagement with community members and key stakeholders will be crucial to building broader support and ensuring sustainability. By nurturing young talent and promoting resilience, initiatives like SKY Girls are laying the groundwork for a more inclusive society where every girl can thrive.
