Afrobeats artist Small Doctor has voiced serious concern about the rising impact of drug abuse among young people in Nigeria.
The singer, who hails from Agege, shared that a recent trip to his childhood community left him deeply troubled. During the visit, he witnessed some of his peers once full of potential struggling with substance abuse, to the point where some were seen sleeping while still on their feet.
He described the scene as heartbreaking and called for intensified efforts to raise awareness and combat drug misuse.
Small Doctor also recalled a conversation from six years ago with legendary musician Wasiu Ayinde, who had advised him to consider setting up a rehabilitation center, predicting it would become a vital and profitable venture in the future.
On his X handle, Small Doctor wrote, “There is one bros that sings against drug abuse on socials, been a minute I came across his contents (David something can’t fully remember). I think we need him more this moment.
“I strolled through hoods on Sunday and what I saw was heartbreaking. The rate young chaps use drugs nowadays is alarming .
“Wasiu Ayinde told me 6 years ago to establish a rehabilitation centre, stating it is the new oil. That man saw the future.
“Most heartbreaking was when I arrived my hood, I saw some promising guys we grew up together sleeping while standing, some were even making some crazy postures while sleeping.
“So sad.”
