Chukwuma Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, has instructed all political appointees to immediately relinquish their duties, just a little over 24 hours after he was sworn in for a second term.

The Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) issued an official circular on March 18, 2026, conveying the directive and instructing affected appointees to transfer their responsibilities to Permanent Secretaries or, if they are unavailable, to the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The memo states that the handover should be finalized on or before the end of work on that day, pending the formation of a new cabinet.

“I am directed to inform all political appointees to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servant in the various MDAs on or before the close of work today… until a new cabinet is constituted,” the statement read.

Additionally, the government instructed that all cabinet members in their first term are to convene with the governor at the ANSEC Chambers on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

Dr. Nwabufor Nwankwo, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, signed the circular.

This development indicates the formal dissolution of the current cabinet and the start of a new administrative cycle under Governor Soludo, who is preparing to reassemble his executive team for the upcoming term.
