Nigerian music star Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has appealed to the public to stop referring to her daughter, Adejare, as “Duduke.”
Simi had released a hit single titled Duduke in 2020, which was inspired by her pregnancy and dedicated to her unborn child at the time.
Following the birth of her daughter, Adejare, in June 2020, whom she shares with her husband and fellow artist Adekunle Gold, many fans began affectionately calling the child by the song’s title.
However, during a recent chat with VJ Adams, Simi expressed discomfort with the nickname, explaining that “Duduke” was never intended as a name.
She clarified that “‘Duduke’ was just an onomatopoeia she used in the song to express how her baby makes her heart beat,” and emphasized that it holds no specific meaning.
She said, “People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum.
“Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react.”
