The Syracuse University Sport Management Club (SPM Club) has raised a record-breaking $59,500 for the Rescue Mission of Syracuse through its 20th Annual Charity Sports Auction. The event, held during the Syracuse men’s basketball game on December 10, featured a live auction and an online bidding platform.

Supporters had the opportunity to bid on a wide range of items, including sports memorabilia, electronics, jewellery, gift baskets, experiences, books, and trips. The online auction allowed supporters who couldn’t attend the event in person to participate and bid on hundreds of items.

The Rescue Mission of Syracuse strives to end hunger and provide hope to those in need. The SPM Club’s efforts will significantly contribute to this mission.

Apex Entertainment served as the title sponsor for the 2024 auction. Adelaide Gilley ’25, Livia McQuade ’25, and Tynan Weathers ’25 served as co-chairs for the event.

Jeremy Losak, sport analytics assistant professor and faculty advisor to the SPM Club, praised the students’ efforts, saying, “The students have outdone themselves with this year’s Charity Sports Auction, and I couldn’t be prouder.

Losak highlighted the students’ hard work and dedication, stating, “While the public sees the excitement of the live event on game day, the real work happens behind the scenes, with students spending months planning every detail.”

He added, “From marketing and sales to sponsorship activation, analytics, event management, and fundraising, this event gives students a hands-on opportunity to apply classroom knowledge while making a real impact on the greater Syracuse community. This is scholarship in action at its finest.”

The SPM Club has raised over $760,000 for local charities since its founding in 2005. Previous beneficiaries of the club’s annual charity auction include several notable organizations, such as Tillie’s Touch, Boys & Girls Clubs, and the Food Bank of CNY.
