The enigmatic disappearance of Olaloye Olatunde, the vice principal of Ipele Community High School, Owo, in Owo LGA of Ondo State, from a well-known hotel in Akure, the state capital, has alarmed his family.
Mrs. Adenike Olaloye, the wife of the missing vice principal, claims that she lost communication with her husband last Wednesday after he traveled to the hotel for a workshop in which he was invited to participate.
The wife, who is currently in the hospital after fracturing her leg while looking for her husband, revealed that on Sunday, August 24, 2025, her husband traveled from Owo to Akure to participate in a week-long Child Labor Program run by Trace Project, Akure, in collaboration with Charakids Foundation.
After checking into the Sunview Hotel in Alagbaka, where all participants were staying, Mrs. Adenike reported that her husband had contacted her.
She said, “We spoke regularly until Wednesday. By Friday, his phone was no longer reachable. The seminar was supposed to end that day, but I never heard from him again.
“I was the one who arranged his bag before he travelled. That same bag was what they later found in his hotel room. Sadly, they had already packed it out without telling me.”
Additionally, Mr. Zacheus Olaloye, the older brother of the missing vice principal, claimed that the hotel is not assisting the family in their search for his sibling, emphasizing that attempts to view the hotel’s CCTV footage have been fruitless.
“When my brother’s wife called me that she hadn’t seen my brother, I went to Sunview. The staff initially told me that all participants had checked out. But later I discovered the bag they said was abandoned was my brother’s own, with his clothes and shoes still inside,” he said.
He further claimed that following Olatunde’s disappearance, the hotel and event planners neglected to formally contact the family.
“Sunview has not called us, and the organisers have done nothing tangible to help us find my brother. We are the ones chasing everyone. They should help us.”
Kenneth Ekpeyong, the manager of Sunview Hotel, and Mrs. Oluwaseyi Adebayo, another employee, responded to the development by saying that every participant was present.
“On August 24, 49 participants arrived, later increasing to 58. On Friday, we organised an Asun Night for them, as part of our hospitality package. Some left that night, while others checked out on Saturday,” Adebayo said.
Adebayo claims that one of the facilitators told the hotel to remove the items from Room 305 because the resident had gone there to sign the instructors’ compensation vouchers.
“We used our master card to open the room, packed the bag, and documented it. Later we were told it was the vice principal’s bag.
“From our CCTV, we saw him on Wednesday, and then again on Thursday morning, August 28, at exactly 6:17 a.m., when he walked out of the hotel and never returned. That is why the room was eventually opened,” Adebayo added.
Olayinka Ayanlade, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, acknowledged that an investigation has been launched into the issue when contacted.
He urged everyone to come forward with information that could help find the missing vice principal.
