In order to restore the hospital’s energy supply, the Kano State Police Command stepped in to resolve a conflict between the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) and the Kano energy Distribution Company (KEDCO) regarding power cutoff.
The Command stated the intervention was required due to the security and humanitarian consequences of the blackout, which reportedly interrupted vital medical services at the hospital, in a statement signed by SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, presided over the meeting, which took place at the Bompai Police Headquarters. It brought together Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of KEDCO, and Prof. A. Abba Sheshe, the Chief Medical Director of AKTH.
Following discussions, Dr. Jimeta ordered quick action to restore the hospital’s power, demonstrating KEDCO’s resolve to settle the issue peacefully. The police were thanked by both sides for promoting communication and identifying points of agreement.
The Command emphasized that the resolution’s success showed its dedication to protecting people and property while maintaining the uninterrupted operation of critical institutions including hospitals.
