As security forces try to find the people behind the recent killings of two people, the Kano Emirate has asked the inhabitants of Dabai, a neighborhood in Kano, to keep the peace.
It is claimed that the suspects belong to a local vigilante organization.
Alhaji Muhammad Ado Bayero, the Tafidan Kano and District Head of Gwale, issued the call for calm after people of Dabai demonstrated.
Men, women, and children were among the protesters who held signs calling for the local vigilante group to be disbanded and accusing its members of illegal killings.
Citing worries over suspected targeted violence against their youth, the demonstrators formally presented their complaints to the district head.
Speaking to the crowd, Tafidan Kano offered condolences to the impacted families and reassured them that a comprehensive inquiry into the occurrence had already been ordered by the Kano State Commissioner of Police. He made it clear that anyone found guilty will be prosecuted.
In a stunning turn of events, however, people from nearby communities came to the Kano Emir’s Palace on Thursday morning to file a counterpetition.
They said that the vigilante group is essential to preserving local security and rejected demands to abolish it.
Tafidan Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Ado Bayero called a meeting with important parties, including security services and the vigilante group’s leadership, in reaction to the rising tension.
With a dedication to upholding justice through the legal system, the talks centered on identifying a long-term solution to the situation.
