The gunmen, who were said to be six in number and armed to the teeth, arrived at the scene on a motorcycle and in a black Lexus 350 SUV without licence plates. They opened fire on unsuspecting students and residents, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos.

While the exact number of casualties is still unclear, a student of the institution alleged that the attackers were cult members. “Cult activities have resumed in our institution and the management has refused to talk about it until we all die in this place,” the student said.

The student also accused the school management of knowing the “bad eggs” but failing to take action. “The most annoying thing is that the authorities know the bad eggs, but they don’t want to do anything. They are only interested in admitting many students because of money and the students are not happy,” the student added

A community leader also spoke out about the issue, attributing the problem to the school management’s admission process. “The way they offer admission to students in Oko Federal Polytechnic is not the way other institutions do. The number of admissions through that method is double than the approved number by the government,” the leader said.

The leader called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the matter, warning that “a lot of things will go wrong” if the situation is not addressed. “Federal Polytechnic Oko in Orumba South local government area of Anambra state has become a business centre where anything goes,” the leader said.

The Police command has confirmed the incident and deployed a joint security team to the scene. The team, led by the Area Commander of Aguata, has launched a manhunt for the attackers. “We are acting on credible intelligence and eyewitness accounts to track down the hoodlums,” the command said.

According to the Police command spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, two victims are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while two deaths have been recorded. “Sadly, two deaths have been recorded, and two others were allegedly abducted,” Ikenga said.
