TETFUND: Federal University secures N1 Billion for Park and Innovation Hub

The Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa, has received a special intervention of N1 billion from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for the establishment of an innovation hub and park in the institution. According to the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Yahaya-Bello, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo, disclosed that the university is one of the few selected institutions to benefit from this initiative.

The innovation hub aims to empower students with self-reliance and equip them to become potential employers in their respective fields. Prof. Sabo explained that the hub will promote a culture of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship among students, enhancing economic growth and human capital development

The hub will feature various state-of-the-art facilities, including a product design laboratory, 3D printing laboratory, software laboratory, leathercraft workshop, biotechnology laboratory, electronics laboratory, and eco-laboratory, among others. The Vice-Chancellor highlighted that these facilities will provide students with hands-on experience and opportunities to develop innovative solutions.

“The hub will also have a software laboratory, a space for coding, experimentation, and technological advancement, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and software resources,” Prof. Sabo said. “The eco-laboratory will focus on tackling environmental challenges through upcycling, recycling, sustainable architecture, advanced materials, and circular economy principles.”

Upon completion, the innovation hub is expected to bring together exceptional talent and skilled professionals, providing access to mentorship, expert guidance, networking opportunities, and state-of-the-art technology. This will enable students to turn innovative ideas into reality, driving economic growth and development
