President Bola Tinubu has been brazenly cautioned by a coalition of influential groups known as the Joint Northern Groups to reconsider his administration’s stance on former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The organisations fear that Buhari’s recent legal moves undercut the dignity of northern elder statesmen and indicate an anti-northern agenda, particularly the decision to have him appear before a foreign court.

Attacking an elder statesman like Buhari, according to the alliance, is not only offensive but divisive and could lead to unnecessary divisions in the nation’s unity. Since President Tinubu is the main beneficiary of the support and solidarity offered by the previous administration, including that of President Buhari, they emphasised that he should prioritise unity and cooperation over conflict and division.

Prioritise unity and collaboration over conflict and division. The Joint Northern Groups called for a more respectful style of administration that honours the achievements of past leaders, particularly those from the north who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation.

They believe that the legacy of past leaders should be respected and their accomplishments acknowledged, thus they urged President Tinubu to focus on building bridges rather than tearing down the leadership pillars that have supported the nation.

The Joint Northern Groups are still dedicated to promoting the northern region’s interests and encouraging mutual respect and cooperation among all Nigerians.

The hosting of US and French military bases in the region is a delicate issue that necessitates careful consideration and consultation with local stakeholders, according to one northern leader, who is one of many speaking out against what they perceive to be a lack of respect for their leaders and a disregard for their interests.
