Controversial music artist Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has alleged that certain individuals in Nigeria’s entertainment scene are being deliberately sidelined.
He suggested that Ibrahim Chatta was unfairly denied an award at the 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) due to a coordinated effort within the movie industry.
Although Chatta had been in the running for Best Lead Actor for his performance in House of GAA, the award ultimately went to Femi Adebayo for his role in Seven Doors. Chioma Chukwuka, who also featured in Seven Doors, secured the Best Lead Actress title.
Responding through a video posted on his Instagram account, Portable asserted that Chatta was more worthy of the Best Lead Actor recognition.
He said, “My fans, there is a gang up in the Nigerian entertainment industry, even in Nollywood. They didn’t give Ibrahim Chatta an award at the 11th AMVCA despite his impeccable acting. That was how I was also snubbed by The Headies Awards.
“We don’t need awards. We need food, we need money. We have money but we can’t use money to buy awards like some persons.
“Ibrahim Chatta, if they don’t award you, God will reward you. My boss, you are my mentor. I love you.”
Recall that Ibrahim Chatta made a similar claim in 2023 when he was yet to bag an AMVCA nomination. He had claimed that his exclusion from the award was a conspiracy against him.
