According to ZINGTIE, Anyanwu has also claimed that PDP governors are planning to launch a new political party.

In an interview with the Saturday Tribune, he described the campaign for the inauguration of Sunday Udeh-Okoye, who was confirmed as National Secretary by the Court of Appeal, as part of a “proxy war” undertaken against him by governors and the BoT.

The PDP has been battling ongoing internal problems, mostly split between factions loyal to Wike and those rejecting his authority.

Anyanwu, a renowned Wike loyalist, received support from the former Rivers State governor in his unsuccessful run for Imo State governorship. He said that his opponents target him only because of his relationship with Wike.

Anyanwu disputed the validity of the governors’ and BoT’s acts, claiming that neither has constitutional power inside the PDP.

“The truth of the matter is that these people are fighting a proxy war. They know my relationship with Wike. That’s all. I don’t have any issue with any of them,” he asserted.

He described the PDP Governors’ Forum as a voluntary body with no binding authority, stating, “The governors’ forum is a voluntary organization. Any governor can decide to be a member. It’s not a compulsory thing. It’s a social gathering.”

He emphasised his longstanding engagement in the party, saying, “I know these people. The party gave them tickets to become governors. I was National Secretary before most of them became governors.”

Anyanwu also said that PDP governors are purposely inciting internal conflicts to explain desertion and the development of new political organisations.

“There is no issue in the party. They are just creating tension, causing unnecessary problems for them to go to the respective parties they want to form,” he claimed.

The controversy erupted after the PDP Governors Forum met in Asaba, Delta State, and officially approved Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary.

This action followed a Court of Appeal decision in Enugu that confirmed Udeh-Okoye as the legal occupant of the position.

Udeh-Okoye was nominated for the job after Anyanwu resigned temporarily to run for governor of Imo State in 2024. Following his election loss, Anyanwu attempted to retake the position, despite the fact that the South-East Zone had already nominated Udeh-Okoye in compliance with party procedures.

The PDP’s BoT backed up the governors’ position by adopting a committee report led by Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), which maintained the court’s decision in favour of Udeh-Okoye.

Regarding the scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, as requested by the governors, Anyanwu informed that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had yet to meet to begin the process.
