The Coalition of United Political Parties, or CUPP, has declared that democracy in the nation is in danger in response to the reported assault on Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Coalition also claimed that the ruling party was trying to stifle criticism.
The opposition is furious over a recent comment made by Felix Morka, the APC’s national publicity secretary.
In an appearance on Arise, Morka warned the LP leader of the repercussions for his actions and accused Peter Obi of “crossing the line.”
Since then, the Obidient Movement has voiced its alarm at the remark, calling it a careless assault on Peter Obi.
This came after the leader of the Labour Party screamed and claimed that he had received threats on his life after sending a message to Nigerians on the New Year.
In a statement issued by High Chief Peter Ameh, the CUPP’s national secretary, the party called Morka’s remarks a troubling development that goes against the fundamentals of free speech and democracy.
