Al-Mustapha, Hamza In Nigeria’s general elections in 2027, retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha has declared his intention to run for president.
He attested to the seriousness of his aim this time.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa service, he made the statement while talking about Nigeria’s democracy, security, poverty, and his involvement with the late General Sani Abacha’s military regime.
He declared, “God willing, I only tested it, but this time I’m serious about running,”
General Sani Abacha, the late head of state’s former chief security officer, stated that he has already begun discussing the importance of keeping a tight eye on Nigeria’s elections with foreign observers.
He claimed that instead of being counted, election results have previously been written down.
“That is why we have discussed with foreign countries, asking them to closely monitor Nigeria, especially regarding the elections, because election results are usually written,” he said.
Additionally, Al-Mustapha indicated he would not join any political alliances, particularly those that he claimed went against his convictions.
“If their ideology is different from ours, then I don’t want to be part of something shameful that would bring dishonor to the country with my involvement,” he said.
When asked if he would support another candidate like Atiku Abubakar, he replied, “There is no possibility of our paths crossing politically, so there’s no need for that question.”
Al-Mustapha had previously run unsuccessfully in the elections of 2019 and 2023.
