According to House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in Kano State, President Bola Tinubu is worried about Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), being undecided about switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin stated that Kwankwaso alone would determine whether or not he would leave the NNPP for the APC.
There have been rumors that Kwankwaso defected to the APC from the NNPP.
Kwankwaso and President Tinubu met on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja amid these rumors.
According to political observers, Tinubu’s prospects of holding onto his seat in 2027 would increase if Kwankwaso joined the APC.
There are also many rumors that the former governor of Kano State would join the opposition alliance that the African Democratic Congress, or ADC, has chosen.
However, Jibrin told Deutsche Welle (DW) that Kwankwaso had not yet made a political decision.
He said: “My visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not unusual. Everyone is aware of my relationship with the President, just as they know the long-standing political respect between him and our leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Both are political giants.”
Only Kwankwaso can make that decision. It is also a matter that concerns the President.”
”I am too young to reconcile such political titans, but reconciliation is always a welcome development.”
Additionally, the congressman denied allegations that he was serving as a mediator.
“I am not a hypocrite. If there were any messages from Kwankwaso that I needed to relay to the President, I would do that.”
