Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has clarified that the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential race by fellow All Progressives Congress (APC) governors is rooted in their confidence in his leadership, not intended as an insult to Nigerians.

Speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, Sule emphasized that the decision came from genuine support among the governors.

“It is a conviction of the governors, it is a belief of the governors. There is no sign of a mockery in this,” he said.

On Thursday, 22 APC governors, party members in the National Assembly, the National Working Committee (NWC), and zonal leaders threw their support behind President Tinubu, backing him as the party’s sole flagbearer for the next presidential election.

Although President Tinubu has not officially declared his intention to seek re-election, the endorsement has drawn criticism from opposition parties and concerned stakeholders, who argue that the president should prioritize governance.

In response, Governor Sule maintained that there is no reason for complaints, noting that the opposition had taken similar steps when it held power.

”And with due respect, this is not the first time this has happened. At one point, the PDP had 31 governors in this country, and this sis not long ago, and they did not play on the intelligence of Nigerians.

”In 2014, the governors of the PDP came and endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan, and the world did not come to an end, and people did not blame them that they were making a mockery of the people.

”It is all part of the belief of the governors of the ruling party that the President has done well and has done much,” he added.

The governor also dismissed claims that the country was turning into a one-party state.
