According to President Bola Tinubu, he removed the fuel subsidy in order to protect Nigerians’ future.
Tinubu stated that the removal of the fuel subsidy was necessary because he could not let Nigeria go bankrupt.
After launching some of the projects that Governor Peter Mbah had constructed on Saturday, he revealed this to the residents of Enugu State at a town hall gathering.
Tinubu asserts that in order to meet not only our present needs but also those of the future, we must construct this nation known as Nigeria. For this reason, the fuel subsidy has to be removed. We cannot preemptively waste the future of future generations. Don’t ruin the country before it’s even been born.
On May 29, 2023, Tinubu declared that the petrol subsidy would be removed.
Commodity prices increased as a result of his efforts, and some of his detractors criticised the policy for being poorly considered.
