The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi praised President Bola Tinubu in a mocking manner.
Obi asserts that Tinubu is successfully carrying out the pledges he made to Nigerians during his campaign, one of which was to emulate the policies of the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose administration has been characterized as directionless and illiterate.
The All Progressives Congress, or APC, years had not been easy for the people, particularly when it came to putting food on the table. Tinubu had pledged throughout his campaign that he would start where his predecessor had left off.
Obi claimed that the president has kept his promises to his constituents during his appearance on Arise TV on Tuesday.
“He [Tinubu] is doing well because what he promised people is exactly what he is doing; that he would start and continue from where the previous government stopped,” Obi said.
“Someone who met the dollar at 300 to 400, and now it is 1,500, he has done fantastic.
“What is happening can be turned around with a competent leader who has the capacity and compassion to serve. I would make sure to address Nigerians at least once every month.”
Inflation, increased living expenses, and currency depreciation were among the economic shocks caused by Tinubu’s removal of gasoline subsidies on his first day in office and subsequent naira floating.
The electricity pricing was changed, among other things, to enhance supplies and draw in investment, but many Nigerians are concerned about paying more in the absence of a reliable power source.
