Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) 2023 presidential contender, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies.
According to Adebayo, Tinubu’s economic ideas are completely at odds with those that are working in Brazil.
In response to inquiries during an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” the SDP leader made this claim on Wednesday.
When President Tinubu spoke to Nigerians in North America, Adebayo was responding to his comments.
According to Tinubu, Nigeria and Brazil have comparable economic origins in the past.
“Once upon a time, Nigeria and Brazil stood on the same level. Look at Brazil today, its technology, its food systems. We must ask ourselves: what do they have that we don’t?
“We have the brains, the energy, and the youth. We have everything we need. Now, we must act,” Tinubu had said.
Adebayo responded to Tinubu’s comments by claiming that Nigeria lacks sound economic strategies but Brazil does.
“Brazil is next to USA; so they have a big economy and the government and the private sector are participating. They have indigenous industries arising from agriculture, coffee, soya beans and all of that; then they have the high end with aeronautics, defence and all of that.
“The country that makes a lot of money from producing aircraft, like Embraer, and all those other companies, is making more money just producing plain soya beans. So the economic policy of the president is opposed to the one that succeeded in Brazil.
“I’m happy that he’s there, because by going there, he will see how rough headed his own policies are,” Adebayo said.
