The Deputy Inspector-General of Police overseeing the South-East Geopolitical Zone and in charge of Logistics and Supply, DIG Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has called for a unified strategy among security agencies in the region to curb crime and strengthen security.

He made the appeal during an operational visit to Imo State as part of his strategic assessment tour of the South-East Geopolitical Zone, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

During the visit, the DIG inspected the State Police Command, where he was received by the Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, alongside members of the command’s management team and senior officers.

Addressing officers and personnel of the command, DIG Onwuemelie stressed the importance of professionalism, discipline, accountability, and intelligence-driven policing.

He charged officers to remain steadfast in carrying out their constitutional duty of safeguarding lives and property.

The DIG commended the command for its dedication and operational efforts in ensuring security in the state, while urging personnel to remain vigilant, committed, and responsive in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He further emphasised the need for sustained collaboration between the police, other security agencies, government bodies, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders, noting that collective effort is essential in addressing modern security challenges.

The Deputy Inspector-General also highlighted the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to adopting modern crime-fighting technologies, including artificial intelligence, drones, and other innovative tools, to enhance intelligence gathering, surveillance, investigation, and proactive policing.

As part of his engagements, DIG Onwuemelie, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police and members of the command’s management team, paid a courtesy visit to Eze Imo, C.C. Okeke, where he sought continued support and partnership from traditional institutions in the effort to strengthen peace and security in the state.

The DIG, while speaking with Eze Imo, acknowledged the critical role of traditional rulers in fostering peace and community security.

In response, Eze Imo reaffirmed the commitment of traditional institutions to supporting security agencies in maintaining peace across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, in his remarks, appreciated the DIG’s visit and assured residents of the command’s continued commitment, in synergy with other security agencies and stakeholders, to protecting lives and property and ensuring a peaceful environment.
