A transportation tragedy involving a bus in southern Mexico claimed the lives of 41 individuals.

According to Reuters, the unfortunate occurrence occurred in the early hours of Saturday, and the bus was completely destroyed after being engulfed by flames as a result of the collision.

According to the report, the bus carrying 48 people crashed with a truck, killing 38 passengers and two drivers.

The truck’s driver was also killed, according to local authorities.

The Tabasco state government said in a statement that recovery efforts were still ongoing.

“So far, only 18 skulls have been confirmed, but much more is missing,” Tabasco security sources stated on condition of anonymity.

Tours Acosta, a bus operator, said it was “profoundly sorry about what happened,” in a post on Facebook.

The firm stated that it was working with authorities to determine what happened and whether the bus was travelling at the speed limit.
