Tragedy as armed men stabs student to death on Campus

A student of the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Lapai, identified as Jafar, has been killed by suspected robbers in a student lodge in the Ndakitabu area. The incident occurred at about 2:30 am on Monday when armed robbers attacked the lodge.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Command, Wasiu Abiodun, “Today, June 23, 2025, at about 3 am, information was received that at about 2.30 am, some hoodlums attacked a student lodge at Ndakitabu area via Lapai.” Abiodun stated that police operatives rushed to the scene, but the suspected robbers had escaped.

The victim was stabbed in the neck and rushed to the General Hospital in Lapai, where he was confirmed dead. Abiodun reassured students that an investigation into the tragic incident had begun, saying, “Tactical teams of the command have been dispatched to Lapai to ensure that normalcy is restored, while investigation into the unfortunate incident has commenced as the Commissioner of Police directed that the perpetrators of this heinous crime must be arrested and brought to book.”

Following the incident, students of the university barricaded the Agaie-Lapai Road in protest of the killing of their colleague. The police command has promised to do everything possible to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
