Following the unfortunate death of his wife on Saturday, April 26, 2025, during an alleged forced sexual encounter, Auwal Abdulwahab, a 20-year-old groom from Tungo village, Albasu District of Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area, Jigawa State, was arrested along with three pals. The peaceful northern community is in shock and mourning as a result of the upsetting tragedy.

The suspects, identified as Nura Basiru, Muttaka Lawan, and Hamisu Musa, allegedly conspired with Abdulwahab to force the new bride into non-consensual sexual activity within their marital home, resulting in her premature death, according to a statement released on Sunday, April 27, 2025, by SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the state police spokesperson.

According to preliminary investigation, the bride had previously opposed consummating the marriage, a dispute that allegedly caused friction between the couple from the beginning of their partnership. According to family sources, the marriage ceremony was held just one week before to the tragic event, and cultural constraints made matters worse.

According to police records, at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, officers from the Sule Tankarkar Division received a distress call and hurried to the location. Before her remains were given to her distraught parents for burial in accordance with Islamic customs, the bride’s lifeless body was taken right away to Gumel General Hospital, where a medical checkup verified her death.

In accordance with an order from Commissioner of Police CP AT Abdullahi, all four suspects have been arrested and are presently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Dutse. Authorities stress that every effort will be made to fully understand the matter and hold all guilty parties accountable.

According to police sources, the accused has already been charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide under articles of the Jigawa State Penal Code. Prosecution will start as soon as the covert investigations are finished.

The Jigawa State Police Command has urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue, stating unequivocally that the case will serve as a reminder that violence against women, especially when committed under the pretense of marriage, will never be accepted.
